Arkansas Center Of Diamonds State Park. Kevin Kinard was visiting Arkansas Crater of Diamonds State Park when he discovered a 907 carat diamond. The mine was operated privately and as a tourist attraction from 1952 to 1972.

At the Crater of Diamonds State Park you will dig for diamonds in a 37 12-acre plowed field the eroded surface of an ancient volcanic crater. More than 33100 diamonds have been found by park visitors since the Crater of Diamonds became an Arkansas state park in 1972. In 1972 the State of Arkansas purchased the site for development as a state park.
